Key Project:
Clayton Yacht House
The 18,000 SF, three-story building was constructed on a vacant lot within the Village of Clayton. In 2017 A&C was presented with an Award of Merit for the category of Commercial/Industrial Large Projects of 5,000 square feet and over by the AIA Central NY. The project was also granted the 2016 Excellence in Construction and Craftsmanship award by the Northern New York Builders Exchange.
The mixed-use building includes a space for a restaurant, multiple retail spaces, and ten condominium spaces. The building is fully handicapped accessible with access from the sidewalk at the street level and from the public riverwalk at the back of the building, and an interior elevator. The elevator design specifications were based on Federal Emergency Management Agency Guidelines due to the construction site being below the floodplain elevation. The exterior is designed in a classical style to compliment the historical nature of downtown Clayton. Due to the complex nature of the site needing access from multiple elevations, the ground floor is split into two levels with retail spaces having a street-level presence and the lower restaurant having a riverwalk presence. A mezzanine for service spaces fills in some of the area in the double-height space towards the river. The project features a large terrace with restaurant seating overlooking the Thousand Islands and St. Lawrence Seaway. The residential levels will feature one-bedroom condominiums with open floor plans and balconies. Most of the units will have a view of the St. Lawrence River, while the others will overlook historic downtown Clayton.
