Land Port of Entry, US Customs & Border Protection
Aubertine and Currier was the Designer of Record as part of a $7,500,000 GSA Land Port of Entry Facility design-build construction project. Aubertine and Currier provided the architectural design, structural design, civil engineering design, LEED design, topographic survey, and construction administration for this project. Sub-consultant services included mechanical, electrical, communication, security, and fire protection, professional design and engineering services, construction administration, and design support provided throughout construction. LEED commissioning was sub-consulted for completion by a third-party commissioning agent. The project consisted of designing a 6,938 sf Land Port of Entry Facility located in northern New York State along the Canadian border. The design incorporates the latest in energy-efficient strategies as well as security and communications required by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Building design included: an enclosed vehicle inspection bay, guard booth, vestibule, lobby, public restroom, work area offices, break room, staff entry, search room, holding cells, interview room, secure storage, staff restrooms, IT room, mechanical room, electrical room, vehicle garage, fitness room, bunk rooms, kitchen pantry, agent locker room, laundry, and unfinished space. Support systems included well water treatment, fire pump building, solar panels, and rainwater recycling. Site design included; incoming and outgoing vehicle lanes, secured parking, fencing, site lighting, on-site septic treatment, stormwater management, and demolition of existing facilities.
The LPOE is designed and equipped to process both vehicular and pedestrian travelers into the United States. The complex was designed to obtain an LEED Silver certification upon completion, and is the first Land Port of Entry to obtain this type of certification. Third-party commissioning is completed to verify building operating systems including; building envelope, electrical systems, communications, water, mechanical, wastewater, stormwater treatment, etc.
